Abu Dhabi Tourism holds three-day India roadshow, ET TravelWorld

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) recently showcased a range of destination highlights along with 23 key partners, including Etihad Airways and Miral Destinations, at a three-day India roadshow with visits to Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata.

More than 730 travel trade delegates attended the roadshow that was held across three cities late last month, to learn about the unique and diverse experiences that Abu Dhabi as a destination offers Indian travellers, while paving the way for long-term partnerships in the sector. It is for the first time that DCT Abu Dhabi has targetted Tier 2 cities in India. The department said it aims to conduct workshops in 11 more cities this year.

According to DCT Abu Dhabi, the aim of the roadshow was to strengthen existing relationships and build new connections with travel trade partners, besides showcasing the emirate as a leading tourism destination for leisure, business and incentive travel.

“India is consistently one of the emirate’s top overseas markets and one of the largest source markets for MICE travel in Abu Dhabi,” said Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director of Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau in an exclusive interview with ETTravelWorld. “We have strong long-term projections on the future of tourism. Our goal is to double the sector’s size by 2030,” he added.

Recently, Etihad, Air Arabia, and Indigo had announced direct flights from India to Abu Dhabi. Etihad started a daily flight service to Kolkata from Abu Dhabi providing a total of seven weekly nonstop services to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU). Air Arabia also launched direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Additionally, Indigo announced its direct daily flights from Hyderabad to Abu Dhabi & Chennai to Abu Dhabi.The focus of the roadshow as to highlight Abu Dhabi as an all-year round destination, with an attractive line of up events for the summer season including the iconic Indian International Film Academy Awards (IIFA) that will take place in Abu Dhabi this May, Paw Patrol Live in June, Guns N’ Roses concert at Etihad Arena on June 1, and the UFC Abu Dhabi Showdown Week and UFC 294 in October.
